ShipCompliant was originally launched to help wineries access the burgeoning Direct to Consumer channel back in January 2006. Since then, our bootstrapped team in Boulder, along with our steadfast industry partners and supportive clients, have reshaped the industry and enabled a $2B market to flourish. We have expanded from serving wineries to assisting all beverage alcohol companies reach their markets compliantly, and efficiently. In recent years, we have launched an entirely new adjacency in eCommerce sales tax automation called Taxify.co. Finally, we have scaled the team, still based in Boulder, to nearly 70 dedicated, engaged, core-value driven employees.
As a founder entrepreneur, I knew once I decided to sell the business last April to Vista Equity Partners, one day it would become time to leave the company we built. I have recently announced to our team here in Boulder, that the time is nigh. My family and I will take some long-awaited time away, however I plan to stay involved in the beverage alcohol industry through mentorship and investments.
The acquisition last spring was a critical moment for the ShipCompliant team. Through incredible hard work, value-driven focus, and collaborative relationships with our parent, Sovos Compliance, we have emerged the strongest version of ourselves in company history. We tripled our growth rate, doubled our team, launched a brand new Taxify business and ended the year holding onto our 70 Net Promoter Score. The ShipCompliant team has never been in a better position to serve your needs and take the organization into the future.
To say I am grateful is a massive understatement. There are so many of you that may read this who helped create this journey, not just for me, but for the nearly 70 members of the ShipCompliant team. You know what you did: believed in us or challenged us as an early client, saw the vision and partnered early on, contributed as an employee of the company, an industry association that aligned with us, you were a mentor to me, or you referred business to us knowing we would do right by your endorsement.
What we’ve experienced collectively through ShipCompliant’s journey, is proof that business can be more than profit / loss. Business can be an agent that carries meaning into our lives. There is no better example of this, than the meaning I feel for this industry, employees, partners, clients and friends, who all coalesced around something as not-sexy as Compliance Software.
